  • IAEM Certification Exam Updated (30 Jan. 2023) Using the results from the pilot data of the new version of the IAEM Certification exam, several questions have been edited or revised based on input from a panel of subject matter experts. Moving forward, IAEM will determine exam results using scaled scoring. Scaled scoring is a representation of the total number of correct answers a candidate has provided that has been converted into a standardized scale. The passing score is 500 on a scale of 200 to 800.  
  • Certification and Recertification Fees Increase by $5 Effective June 1, 2022 (28 Apr 2022) Certification Application Fees will become $420 for members and $630 for non-IAEM-members. Recertification Fees will become $270 for members and $350 for non-IAEM-members. IAEM membership is available here. The Certification Prep Course fee will increase to $525.
  • IAEM has eliminated the essay as a requirement for the AEM/CEM (2 Dec 2021)The IAEM-USA Board of Directors has decided to remove the essay requirement from all AEM and CEM applications effective immediately. As the IAEM Certification Program prepares to pursue ANSI accreditation, IAEM recently completed an updated emergency management job analysis. Information collected through this process prompted a review of the certification requirements which concluded that the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Behaviors assessed in the essay are represented elsewhere in the certification application and examination. The online application is being updated now to account for the removal of the essay requirement. In the meantime, candidates can upload a blank Word document into the essay section as a workaround to enable the application submission. FAQs are available to answer most questions.
  • Certification and Recertification Fees Increase by $5 Effective June 1, 2021 (26 Apr 2021) Certification and Recertification Fees will increase by $5 on June 1, 2021. Certification Application Fees will become $415 for members and $625 for non-members. Recertification Fees will become $265 for members and $345 for non-members.
  • Call for Commissioners Class of 2024 (25 Feb 2021) The IAEM Certification Commission is looking for candidates to fill 4-6 commissioner openings for the Class of 2024, serving from Jan. 1, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2024.
